9/14/16 UPDATE: Qui is closed
The last time I dined at Qui was when they first opened three years ago (Eclectic Dishes at Qui Austin), needless to say it was long overdue for another visit. The James Beard Award-winning Chef Paul Qui’s flagship restaurant qui is celebrating their three year anniversary in Austin with a new menu featuring a selection of new dishes a la carte style.

We started the night with appetizers from their happy happy time, I highly recommend their happy hour if you haven’t been to the restaurant! And then sampled new dishes from Qui’s new menu. Absolutely loved the dinuguan with pork blood and rice.
QUI HAPPY HAPPY TIME
Happy happy time is 5 – 7pm every Monday through Saturday with $3 – $8 appetizers making my list of best happy hours in Austin.
Table of Contents
Ice Candy
These aren’t your ordinary ice pops. Qui’s ice candies are dangerously refreshing and boozy. Pick from shochu how to party, santa’s retreat, esp-iceee, and harvey door knocker.
Ashes to Ashes
If you like whiskey, try the Ashes to Ashes cocktail. The server lights the wood on fire to create smoke in the glass, pours over irish whiskey with amaro montenegro, chamomile, and maple.
kinilaw
Hamachi in coconut milk, jackfruit, and red onion. ($8 during happy happy time)
Lumpiang Sariaw
mushroom conserva, carrots, peanuts, and black lime. ($3 during happy happy time)
Pork Handroll
pork adobo, fried egg emulsion, tomato, cucumber. ($3 during happy happy time)
Salmon Handroll
ocean trout, negi miso, and fried garlic ($3 during happy happy time)

Qui is celebrating its three year anniversary in Austin with the launch of a new a la carte menu. Previous fan favorites like the salmon butter and cheddar cheese ice cream and a selection of new dishes join the menu. Below are the two new entrees that I tried.

Farmer greens, root vegetables, gueje, nukazuke crudite, leek dashi, and blossoms from Dorsey’s Garden.
Fried Half Chicken
Fish salt, banana ketchup and acharra.
Dinuguan
Pork blood on rice, coconut vinegar and red onion. My favorite dish of the night!
Halo Halo
Beet ice, hoja anta sorbet, roasted beets, toasted rice powder, beet chips and chocolate ganache.
Ice Cream Sundae
Avocado ice cream, matcha blondie, lemon curd, blackberry and avocado cream.
