With every 50 or so new restaurants openings, there’s always one or two that stand out to me and Le Politique definitely did for 3 reasons. One, it’s not New American. Le Politique is French and we don’t have a ton of French restaurants in Austin (Justine’s, Blue Dahlia, Peche, & Chez Nous). Two, pretty space and I’m a sucker for beautifully designed spaces. Three, pastries because I do love my carbs.

Le Politique is by New Waterloo – the Austin-based hospitality group behind La Condesa, Hotel Ella, South Congress Hotel, Sway, Otoko, Central Standard, Café No Sé, and Mañana. I’ve been twice since Le Politique has opened and definitely will be adding it to my rotation of favorite restaurants. Can’t wait for their coffee shop to open next door! For those of you that work downtown and need a spot to impress your clients, Le Politique is the spot.
Table of Contents
POMMES FRITES
So simple but so good. That garlic aïoli is dangerously addicting.
LES FROMAGES
Choose from 3, 5, or 7 combinations of cheeses, honey, mission fig jam, and walnut toast. They have specialty cheeses like délice de bourgogne, and fourme d’ ambert.
SALADE
If you want a light salad, Le Politique has salade verte, salade nicoise, salade landaise with smoked duck breast, and poulet paillard with grilled chicken breast.
TROUT
When I saw trout on the brunch menu, I thought, “Ew fish for brunch?” But it actually ended up being my favorite item on the brunch menu. The trout wasn’t fishy and super flavorful. Loved the additional almonds that gave it that unexpected crunch and texture. The haricots verts were also seasoned perfectly.
PAIN PERDU
If you have a sweet tooth, try the French toast with poached apples and calvados syrup.
LEGATION BURGER
I stopped by Le Politique for a quick lunch and ordered the burger not having high expectations. Oh my goodness, it’s SO GOOD. Possibly the best burger in Austin that I’ve had in awhile. The legation burger comes with morbier cheese, frisée, cornichons, tomato fondue, and those amazing pomme frites with garlic aïol.
POT DE CRÈME
I don’t see pot de crème currently on the menu so I hope they still have this.
CHOCOLATE BOUCHONS
I’ve never had chocolate bouchons before – they’re like rich, little brownie bites dusted with confectioners’ sugar.
PAIN AU CHOCOLAT
I love chocolate croissants so I’m so excited for these perfectly flaky pain au chocolat at Le Politique. They’re opening their coffee shop soon next door and so these will be available in the pastry case.
I’m also excited to announce A Taste of Koko has hired our first ever interns – meet Sarah & Bianca. They’re both students at the University of Texas Austin and will be helping with editorial so you’ll be seeing them around!
