It’s been a rainy May in Austin but that means we’ll have several cool weeks before the Texas heat hits for the summer, which means it’s the picnic season! I’ve rounded up my favorite spots to picnic in Austin.

360 BRIDGE OVERLOOK
Every time I visit the 360 bridge overlook I’m always surprised by the stunning view! It’s a short hike up the stone steps – they are slippery so I recommend wearing tennis shoes.

MUELLER LAKE PARK
Mueller Lake Park has a spacious green lawn in front of the lake for picnic blankets and several picnic tables.

ZILKER PARK
Zilker Park is probably the most popular spot for a picnic in Austin. Pack a picnic basket and blanket and pick your spot in the 358 acres! A lot of people do bring their dogs on the weekends and let them run off leash so don’t be surprised if a furry friend joins your picnic.

GREENBELT
I just hiked the Greenbelt a couple of weeks ago and wish I packed a picnic with me because I got so hungry! Mark sure to lock your car if you park along the side of the road and pack sunscreen, bug spray, water, and food. Try hiking to the Twin Falls for a true oasis experience – it’s about a one hour hike.

MOUNT BONNELL
If you can make it up 102 (plus or minus a few) steps to Mount Bonnell with all your picnic snacks, you’ll be rewarded with an incredible view of Austin. I recommended going around 7pm to catch the sunset.

Doug Sahm Hill Summit
Walk up this circle path up to Doug Sahm Hill Summit for an incredible view of downtown Austin. The view at night is even more spectacular with all the lights.

LAGUNA GLORIA
You can picnic at The Contemporary Austin – Laguna Gloria! The Laguna Gloria is a restored 1916 Mediterranean style villa that was built by Texas legend Clara Driscoll that is now a fourteen-acre sculpture garden. Pack a lunch and picnic in the sculpture garden!
