A Taste of Koko

I am constantly impressed by the restaurant scene in Dallas. C’mon Austin, why do we not have good Southern cooking and hot chicken?? During my visit to Dallas last month, Taylor of The Simple Sol and I checked out a couple of new restaurants and her favorite spot for fried chicken.

STEPHAN PYLES FLORAL STREET CAFE

STEPHAN PYLES FLORAL STREET CAFE

You might have seen this beautiful all-glass restaurant in the Dallas Arts District, but the Floral Street Cafe is much more than a pretty face. James Beard award-winner Stephan Pyles’s Floral Street Cafe boasts not only dishes that are a work of art but also delicious. If you’re looking to impress someone, this is the spot!

WHAT TO ORDER: Wild mushroom empanadas, lobster tamale pie, seared king salmon, and chocolate sponge cake.

hg-sply-co

HG SPLY CO.

I went to HG Sply Co on a previous visit to Dallas and it’s still a favorite! HG Sply Co serves simple, clean food with honest ingredients in a cool bar setting. When was the last time you could order vegan queso, quinoa, zucchini pasta, or cauliflower rice at a bar? Be sure to order the strawberry cheesecake kettlebell and have a couple of cocktails on the rooftop bar.

WHAT TO ORDER: Ginger garlic hummus, duck fried “rice”, and strawberry cheesecake kettlebell.

WAYWARD SONS

This local restaurant on Greenville Ave is currently the hot spot for dinner in Dallas. I couldn’t stop eating the P.E.I mussels, grilled broccolini and triple cooked fries.

I love a great piece of pie, specifically pecan pie. Emporium Pies serves up the best pies by the slice and their bourbon pecan pie doesn’t disappointment. Be sure to get a slice of their seasonal pies while you’re at it.

AMERICANO

One of my favorite meals in Dallas was during my stay at The Joule in downtown Dallas at their restaurant, Americano. The fried olives stuffed with calabrian chili sausage were dangerously addicting, the caesar salad was one of the best that I’ve ever had, and the steak was delicious.

WHAT TO ORDER: Fried olives, housemade meatballs, arancini, caesar salad, flat iron steak, and tiramisu espresso gelato.
