One of the best things about Austin is that we have a local shopping scene with many local shops to shop from. Gift shops, jewelry shops, plant shops, women boutiques, and the biggest independent book store in the state of Texas!

Keep it local by shopping local like Austinites at these local shops in Austin organized by North, South, East, Central, South Congress, and downtown Austin. Many of these are family-owned businesses! You won’t find any department stores like Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Dillard’s, or Nordstrom on this list.

There are several gift shops in Austin, but Atown is one of my favorites because of the wide curated collection of local Austin gifts, including handbags. Everything from women’s clothing, cards, candles, jewelry, baby gifts, and a dedicated men’s section in the back of the store. Atown is not only a great destination for gift shopping but also a hub for Austin shopping in general.

Located in North Loop is Succulent Native – this big plant shop is filled with houseplants, succulents, and local gifts. You can also take a hands-on workshop or planting party at Succulent Native – check out their schedule here.

Parker+Scott is a modern general store that offers a little bit of everything, from candles and cards to apothecary items, kitchen products, and are the only Refill Bar in Austin. Parker+Scott is focused on carrying local and sustainable makers, including 150+ Texas-based businesses who are represented in the shop, as well as 200+ women-owned or led businesses. They also have an amazing snack selection that includes both up & coming local and national brands.

Nina Berenato
I met Nina when she first moved from New York and opened up shop at the Barton Creek shopping mall but this girl has made a mark as a jewelry designer. BEYONCE HAS WORN HER JEWELRY (custom face masks for the Lion King Spirit Music Video).
Nina has donated $11,500 in cash to charities and raise $27,000 for other local makers and artists by selling their goods.
Visit her shop at the Domain NORTHSIDE, which is an outdoor mall.

I’ve been shopping at Plant Party for years! You can find rare houseplants and common houseplants at this cute little plant shop in East Austin. And the shop is called Plant Party because you can come in for a plant party! Build your own terrarium for one or two and it’s BYOB or BYOW.

This cute little paper store at Springdale General, nestled amidst art galleries, has everything from notebooks, cards, pencils, and stationery in a plant-filled shop. BookPeople is the largest independent bookstore in Texas. I grew up with my nose buried half of the time in books and reading in my bookstores so there was always something magical about bookstores to me. When I published my book and BookPeople started carrying it, it was a dream come true.

If you’re wanting an afternoon shopping experience, South Congress is the ultimate shopping destination of Austin with eateries along the way. Walk up and down the strip of boutiques and gift shops while listening to live music from Oak Garden next to Guero’s.
Allens Boots
Landmark store on South Congress Avenue with more than 4,000 cowboy boots on display, plus cowboy hats, clothing & accessories. If you get hungry, there are a few food trucks parked on South Congress to grab a bite to eat.
